Sheriff David Zoerner is a lifelong Kenosha County resident who believes deeply in serving the community that raised him. A Bradford High School graduate, David and his wife Amy are proud parents of four sons and make their home in Pleasant Prairie. His commitment to public service began early and has been guided by one core principle for more than 30 years: protect families, uphold the law, and always put Kenosha County first.

After high school, David enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, training as a Military Policeman and earning selection to serve as a Presidential Guard at the White House. As a Non-Commissioned Officer, he traveled the world protecting Presidents Reagan and Bush while supervising his own detachment of armed Marines. Following his military service, David earned a degree in Political Science from UW-Parkside. Before becoming Sheriff, he spent a decade as a supervisor in the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office and has worked in—and led—every division of the agency.

David’s career reflects unmatched experience in both enforcement and education. He served on specialized teams including Drone Operations and the Tactical Response Team as a Hostage Negotiator, where he safely resolved life-or-death situations and saved lives under extreme pressure. He is a Police Science and CCW instructor at Gateway Technical College, a certified firearms instructor, and the department’s Firearms Trainer. David has also dedicated decades to protecting the most vulnerable—serving as a School Resource Officer, investigating crimes against children, and sitting on the Board of Directors for Women and Children’s Horizons. From combating opioid abuse and human trafficking to advancing mental health response, Sheriff Zoerner brings the judgment, courage, and steady leadership Kenosha County families trust.

His extensive career has allowed him to develop the thick skin and wisdom necessary to face the most difficult situations imaginable and navigate them successfully to uphold the rule of law and protect the families of Kenosha County. He is enthusiastically endorsed by:

  • County Executive Samantha Kerkman

  • Kenosha County Supervisor Erin Decker

  • Former Kenosha County Supervisor Zach Rodriguez

  • Paddock Lake Village Trustee, & Kenosha County Board Supervisor John Poole
