Zoerner Partners with Federal Authorities to Stop International Cocaine Trafficking

Sheriff David Zoerner understands that the fight against drugs doesn't begin at the county line—it starts by working with state and federal partners to stop international trafficking organizations before their narcotics reach Kenosha County streets.

In March 2024, the Kenosha Drug Operations Group (KDOG), the Sheriff's Department Tactical Response Team (TRT), and the Department of Homeland Security's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted a joint operation following the interception of a suspicious international package destined for a Kenosha residence.

Federal investigators identified a shipment arriving from Bogotá, Colombia that contained rollerblades with wheels infused with a gelatin-like substance. Working alongside U.S. Customs and Border Protection, investigators determined the substance tested positive for cocaine.

After developing probable cause, KDOG detectives obtained an anticipatory search warrant tied to a controlled delivery of the package. Once the package was accepted at the residence, Sheriff's Department Tactical Response Team members safely secured the location while detectives conducted a search.

The investigation resulted in the seizure of:

• More than one kilogram of cocaine, with an estimated street value of approximately $35,000

• Nearly $3,500 in U.S. currency

• Money transfer records totaling more than $30,000 sent from Kenosha to Bogotá

• Numerous suspected forged identification documents, including permanent resident cards, Social Security cards, and Colombian identification cards

The case demonstrates the importance of close coordination between local deputies and federal law enforcement to dismantle sophisticated drug trafficking operations before illegal narcotics reach Wisconsin communities.
